Day 182 & 183

Friday, March 3 & Saturday, March 4, 2017

People:A friend of ours came over last night to join us for dinner and also came back to accompany us this morning to the Home Depot workshop with Bear, Squeak, and myself. Puff and Mommy went grocery shopping.

Places/Activities: Last night we went out to dinner at a new restaurant. Well, new to us anyway. The pizza was ok. But we were all starving by the time we got home because the pizza was so thin. It didn't have much taste either, so I can't say we would go back. Not to mention it was in a very busy parking lot and we had trouble finding a parking spot. Can't say that we would ever go back. The people that worked there were nice, but they just need to work on adding some flavor and substance to the pizza. D compared it to old school chef boyardee. Good grief!

Speaking of food, I did the grocery shopping last time and went with the cheaper cat food. Mr. Kitty was not happy with me. So... D bought more of his favorite Meow Mix this week and he was SO happy to see the familiar bag. He's such a funny boy.

Good Deeds: This isn't really a good deed, but it's something to think about. Back when the twins turned one, we purchased a helium tank so we could blow up our own balloons thinking it would be more cost effective. For one, it's really not all that more cost effective. Especially since you are now doing the work yourself (and personally I'm completely petrified of a balloon popping in my face). For two, once the tank is empty, what do you do with it? You can't put the tanks out with your recycling, they won't take them. I called Party City to see if they would return them, but they won't take them either. I can take them to the recycling center myself, but only AFTER I puncture the tank. So, I'm going to do the right thing by recycling the tank after I figure out how to puncture the tank, but man is this a PITA. Next time we'll be getting one or two balloons from party city where they refill the helium tanks rather than create waste like this. Feeling a little annoyed and deflated. Pun intended. Sigh.

Chores: Laundry and general kid clean-up.

Reading: I'm currently reading Land of Love and Drowning by Tiphanie Yanique. So far, I really like it.

Recipes: Today I am making a steak soup recipe I found online. It's a crock pot recipe and smells delicious. I was a little grossed out from chopping up the meat, but I did it. Did I mention I was a vegetarian for 15 years? I'm kind of still in shock that I went back to eating meat. It's like something clicked over when I was pregnant with Squeak. I physically couldn't eat all of the vegetarian meals anymore and craved chicken like it was nobody's business. So, I've been eating meat again for the last 5 years now. It was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend. Our slow cooker cooks REALLY fast, so it was done in 4-5 hours as opposed to 8. We also needed to add another can of beef broth about halfway through since so much of it evaporated.

Anyway, it's called slow cooker Steak Soup. Here's a link to the recipe: http://www.plainchicken.com/2015/11/slow-cooker-steak-soup.html?m=1

Random Thoughts: So when I brought back the blog, I included a list of things that I've learned so far about being a stay at home mom. There's one huge benefit of being a stay at home mom that I'm severely going to miss when I go back to work in the Fall. Completely aside from all the sentimental "I love watching my kids grow up and being there when they learn new things" stuff... I LOVE wearing sweatpants. I'm REALLY going to miss rolling out of bed and throwing on a pair of sweatpants that I wear all day long. Currently Bear screams whenever I put him in pants that have a button at the top. I feel like I might be the same way next year when I have to wear something slightly more professional than sweatpants. Wearing sweatpants is seriously one of the best things ever. I'm always comfortable and snuggly. I guess this just means that I will be even more appreciative of weekends once I return to work just so I can throw on some sweatpants.
